Family Photos at the Farm

This is one of my favorite families. They’re so much fun! I was beyond excited to go to the farm for some evening family photos.

I had the honor of shooting Kayla and Brandon’s wedding earlier this year, so it was great to see them again and capture their winter photos. Kayla’s secret profession must be baby whisperer. She’s able to get the kiddo to smile like none other.

Have I mentioned lately how photogenic their dog, Jasper, is? I probably sound like a broken record because every time I photograph this family, I go on and on about the beauty of Oklahoma farms and the professionalism of Jasper. I mean, seriously, he poses perfecly for each shot. That look above: his Zoolander “I’m a male model” Blue Steel face.

An important public service announcement: “I do” doesn’t end with the wedding ceremony. Weddings are wonderful, but I love what happens after the wedding bells have finished ringing, after the sparklers extinguish, and the wild rumpus of the wedding reception has finished. Happily ever after lasts a long time in the best of circumstances, and it’s easy to divert the attention on the kids, the grandkids, the extended family, etc etc etc. I love providing photos of people at all stages of their relationships, even (and especially) when they’ve been saying “I do” to each other over and over for decades. What can I say, I love love. Beth Dean Photography - Oklahoma Family Farm Photos

Now, you may be saying to yourself, “How ever did she get such beautiful lighting? It is as if the flash of the Gods was shining upon them and the farm.”

I’ll share my secret (aside from catching the sun in just the right spot at just the right time). It’s suuuuuper professional and technical:

Yep, I paid my kid to be a lighting tripod. It worked pretty darn well. I see a bright (get it, bright?) future for him in professional tripodding.

The only catch: sometimes he would say, “Mom, the flash didn’t work on the last shot…because I turned it off, hahahaha.”

Thanks again for the awesome opportunity to photograph your extended family! It’s always a ton of fun. 🙂
